Brown Butter Black Oolong Tea Cookies

Table of Contents

One of the things I love most about tea is that it doesn’t have to stay in your teacup. Growing up, my family often found creative ways to enjoy tea beyond brewing it, and this Brown Butter Black Oolong Tea Cookie recipe is one of our favorites.

The rich, nutty aroma of browned butter pairs beautifully with the floral, lightly roasted character of our Premium Black Oolong Tea. Grinding the tea leaves into a fine powder allows the flavor to blend naturally into the dough, creating cookies that are buttery, fragrant, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet, with a delicate tea finish in every bite.

Whether you’re baking for family, sharing with friends, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon tea, these cookies are a wonderful way to experience the versatility of premium Taiwanese oolong tea.

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and develops a rich, nutty aroma. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Grind one Heritage Leaves Premium Black Oolong Tea bag into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the browned butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Stir the ground oolong tea into the wet ingredients until evenly incorporated.
  6. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
  7. Scoop the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Tea Tip

For the best flavor, use freshly opened tea. Because every Heritage Leaves tea sachet is individually nitrogen-flushed and sealed in aluminum packaging, the tea retains its fresh aroma and delicate floral notes—making a noticeable difference not only in your cup but also in your baking.
