When people taste Heritage Leaves tea, they often comment on its fresh aroma and vibrant flavor. Many ask us the same question:
“Why is each serving individually packaged and nitrogen flushed?”
The answer is simple: because exceptional tea deserves exceptional protection.
Our family has been growing tea in Taiwan for over a century. Every harvest represents months of care—from nurturing the tea plants to handcrafting each batch. After investing so much time and passion into producing premium tea, we refuse to let freshness be lost during shipping or storage.
Tea Begins to Change the Moment It’s Made
Tea is a natural product. Once it’s crafted, it begins to react with its environment.
The four biggest enemies of fresh tea are:
- Oxygen – causes oxidation, reducing aroma and flavor.
- Heat – speeds up the aging process.
- Light (especially UV rays) – breaks down delicate flavor compounds.
- Moisture – can damage tea quality and introduce unwanted odors.
These factors are especially important during international shipping. Cargo containers traveling across oceans can become extremely hot during the summer, and without proper protection, even premium tea can lose much of its character before it reaches your home.
Why We Nitrogen Flush Every Packet
Before sealing each individual packet, we replace the oxygen inside with food-grade nitrogen.
Nitrogen is an inert gas that protects the tea by slowing oxidation. This helps preserve the tea’s natural aroma, flavor, and freshness throughout shipping and storage.
Think of it as gently pressing the “pause” button on freshness until you’re ready to brew your tea.
Why We Use Premium Aluminum Foil Packaging
Not all tea packaging offers the same level of protection.
We use high-barrier aluminum foil pouches because they provide an excellent shield against:
- Oxygen
- Moisture
- UV light
- Heat
This protective barrier helps ensure that every packet stays as fresh as possible, whether it’s traveling across the Pacific Ocean or sitting in your pantry.
Why Individual Packets Matter
Many tea drinkers purchase large bags of loose-leaf tea because they appear to offer better value.
However, every time the bag is opened, fresh oxygen enters. Day after day, the tea slowly loses its aroma and freshness.
By the time you brew the last few servings, the tea often tastes very different from the first cup.
That’s not the experience we want for our customers.
With individually sealed packets, each serving remains protected until the moment you open it.
The first cup and the last cup are equally fresh.
Better Tea, Less Waste
Freshness isn’t just about better flavor—it’s also about reducing waste.
When tea loses its aroma, many people simply throw away the remaining leaves. Buying a large bag may seem economical at first, but if the final portion no longer delivers the same quality, part of your purchase has been wasted.
Our individually sealed packets help you enjoy every serving at its best, from the very first cup to the last.
Our Promise
At Heritage Leaves, we believe great tea deserves more than careful cultivation—it deserves careful protection.
From our family’s tea gardens in Taiwan to your cup, every packaging decision we make has one purpose:
To ensure you experience the tea exactly as our family intended—fresh, aromatic, and full of life.
Because after more than 100 years of growing tea, we know that freshness isn’t a luxury.
It’s part of the tea itself.
